BCB to probe social media posts sponsoring Shakib Al Hasan

As per the existing laws of Bangladesh, there are strict restrictions on establishments providing gambling facilities. Allowing the gambling business to operate is a violation of the law as well as the constitution of the country.

During a press conference after the board meeting, BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan said they would give a notice to Shakib for not informing him about the sponsorship deal.

“There are two things. First there is no possibility of taking permission because we will not give permission. If there is anything related to betting then we will not give any permission,” Najmul was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“That means he didn’t ask us for any permission. Second we need to know whether he actually signed an agreement or not. This issue was raised in today’s meeting and we said how can it happen, because it Impossible. If it happens, ask him immediately. Give him notice and ask him how it happened because the board will not allow it. If it is related to betting then we will not allow it. We have said today.”

The BCB president further said that the stand of the board in this matter is very clear.

‚ÄúSomething in the board is saying that it cannot be related to that (BetWinner is an online gambling portal) and in that case we are unable to take a decision. Still I have asked them to know it as soon as possible. The stand is very clear that it is impossible for us,” Najmul said.

“(But) first we need to know what he has done. This (betting related activities) is not only in cricket but it is banned in this country and the law does not allow it. It is a serious issue. Can’t depend on Facebook postings or things like that. We have to investigate it. If it’s true, the board will take necessary steps.”

The BetWinner controversy is the latest controversy in which the veteran all-rounder has landed. Shakib was banned from all cricket for a year in 2019 after he pleaded guilty to three charges of breaching the ICC’s anti-corruption code.

On him for failure to report two approaches to his involvement in corrupt practices during the 2018 tri-series, and for the approaches received for involvement in corrupt practices during an IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab in 2018. was charged for failure to disclose full details of ,
