CWG 2022: Bowlers impress as India bowl out Pakistan for just 99 in second Group A match

Despite losing the toss and rain reducing the match to 18 overs per side, all went well for the Indian bowlers. The pacers swung the ball around and then the spinners bowled at a slower pace and at the same time took a few turns that never allowed Pakistan to break free in the innings.

Sneh was the bowlers’ choice, staggering Pakistan with a double-wicket strike in the ninth over, where they lost their last five wickets in eight balls. After Renuka Singh started with a maiden in the opening over, Meghna Singh tested Iram Javed with balls outside off-stump and eventually managed to find her place in wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia.

Muniba Ali came out of her shell to slam Renuka for back-to-back boundaries – a slash over point was hawked through mid-wicket. Despite India keeping the pressure on Pakistan, Muniba hits a boundary against Meghna – a boundary over the bridge and then a crunched slog at deep mid-wicket.

His 50-run stand with skipper Bismah Maroof came to an end when the latter was dismissed lbw trying to sweep Sneh. One brings two for India as Muniba delivers a handy return catch to Sneh, working with a round-the-wicket angle for the left arm.

Renuka gives her first wicket of the day to Ayesha Naseem for taking a sharp catch at deep mid-wicket wrongly. Omaima Sohail was run out due to confusion in the middle.

Alia Riaz hit two fours to get Pakistan a good end. But a direct hit from Meghna at mid-off takes her a yard short of the crease. The very next ball, Shafali Verma completed a brilliant low return catch to send Fatima Sana back to the pavilion.

Diana was stumped by Radha Yadav in the final over while Tuba Hasan was run out by substitute fielder Harleen Deol with a throw in the deep. She ended Pakistan’s plight with the bat by stumping Kainat Imtiaz on the last ball of the innings.

Brief Scores: Pakistan out for 99 in 18 overs (Muniba Ali 32, Aaliya Riaz 18; Sneh Rana 2-15, Radha Yadav 2-18) against India
