CWG 2022: Sagar Ahlawat reaches super heavyweight final

Sagar joined defending world champion Nikhat Zareen, Asian champion Amit Panghal and Neetu as the Indian boxer and made it to the finals of their respective weight categories.

With Sagar reaching the final, India have a chance of winning four gold medals, one more than the three earned in Australia’s Gold Coast four years ago.

In the 92kg semi-final, Sagar started well and was marked as the winner of the first round by all the five judges.

He retained his advantage in the second round by inflicting some blows on his opponent. The Nigerian tried to attack in the third round and combined some combinations to score points and was marked as the winner of the third round by four of the five judges.

But as Sagar had performed well in the last two rounds, he was declared the winner on the basis of points.

In the final to be played on Sunday, Sagar will face England’s Delicious Ory, who defeated Australia’s Leuilla Maui in the second semi-final.
