Apart from the two defenders, the Steelers also retained star raiders Mitu Sharma and Vinay Teotia, who made a mark with their consistent performances last season. Youngster Ankit Dhul (defender), who joined midway through Season 8, has also been retained by the Steelers for the upcoming season.

Dahiya scored 66 points from 22 games and was fourth on the list of highest scoring defenders of the season, while Nandal was one of the Steelers’ key players in the previous edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, earning a total of 42 tackle points in 22 . Both games played a key role in the defense for the Steelers last season.
