Minister of State for Sports Harsh Shanghvi welcomed the decision and said, “Gujarat is known for setting records and benchmarks. With the 36th National Games, Gujarat is the best place to host the event within a limited time frame of three months. and will set records. More than 34 sports disciplines in six cities across the state.”
The 36th National Games were to be held in Goa in May 2020 but were postponed indefinitely due to the spread of COVID-19.
Principal Secretary, Sports, Ashwini Kumar said in a press statement, “Various sports events will be spread across the state covering six cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. This will ensure a large community movement. Will do the game.”
In line with the Olympic movement, Gujarat will improve and make better use of its existing infrastructure to organize these games. In this way, the infrastructure created and upgraded by the players of the state will continue to be used regularly.
IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta expressed happiness over Gujarat’s readiness to organize the National Games. He mentioned that in consultation with the IOA and National Sports Federations (NSFs) an assessment of infrastructure was done in the state and accordingly the details of the game were finalised. He appreciated the proactive approach of the State Government for hosting the Games.
