Maharaja Trophy: Brilliant Rohan Patil ton registers a massive 9-wicket win for Gulbarga Mystics against Mysore Warriors

Patil’s attack helped the Mystics register a comprehensive 9-wicket win. Patil, who scored 50 off 15 balls, scored 100 off 42 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 10 fours. He remained unbeaten on 112 runs.

Asked to bat first after the toss was delayed due to rain, Mysore Warriors landed a flyer at a good clip with in-form openers Karun Nair and Nihal Ullal. They were leading at 10 runs per over before the captain was dismissed for 18.

Nihal and Naga Bharat tried to keep up the pace, but it was the opener who fell in the process, going back to the hut for 27 in the 9th over. The Gulbarga Fakirs had applied the brakes a bit, but Pawan Deshpande came in and went on the attack from the get-go.

Deshpande, who made good use of the long handle, scored 41 runs in a short span of time, hitting four fours and a six. He and Bharat added 63 runs in a crucial partnership before Deshpande was dismissed.

The combat stage was set for the warriors. Bharat and Shivraj S put on a total of over 150 before the former was dismissed for 35. Shivraj (17*) and Shubhang Hegde (5*) posted 160/4 in 19 overs with the Warriors.

In reply, it was complete carnage from Gulbarga Mystic opener Rohan Patil, who smashed 32 runs in the second over with 4 sixes and two fours off Vidyadhar Patil. Jaswath Acharya at the other end had the best seat at home but could not last long as he was bowled out for 3 in the fourth over with a score of 49.

Soon after, at the end of the fifth over, Patil completed his half-century in 15 balls, hitting four sixes and five fours, the fastest century of the tournament so far. He was in no mood to slow down, hitting three fours and a six in the next over as KL Sreejith made his way at the other end.

Mystic were 80/1 in 6 overs and were looking well for a big win as Patil was in no mood to spare any bowler. After some time and a few overs later, Sreejith also joined the party while Patil was close to a scintillating century. In the 13th over, Patil completed his century in 42 balls almost over the line.

Patil struck a century partnership with Sreejith (46*) for a six, before ending the proceedings with a boundary at the start of the 15th over.
