Suryakumar finally scored big on Windies tour as India registered a seven-wicket win in the third T20I

On a day when visitors feared injury due to Rohit Sharma’s retired hurt while batting due to a back spasm, Suryakumar smashed a 44-ball 76 as India beat West Indies to 164 for just three. Changed by a score of /5. Wickets and one over left.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya though did not contribute much with bat or ball, but achieved the rare double of 500 runs and 50 wickets.

Pandya dismissed Brandon King after a fifty-run opening stand between him and Kyle Meyers and became the sixth India men’s player to take 50 T20I wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, who accomplished the feat in the last T20I, was the last player to reach the landmark.

However, by completing 50 T20I wickets, Hardik Pandya also completed a 500-run double and 50 wickets in T20Is, becoming the 11th men’s player and 30th overall. Pandya has a total of 806 T20 runs to his name.

The only other Indian to achieve this rare double in T20Is is Deepti Sharma, who currently has 65 T20I wickets and 521 runs.

According to the ICC, among the men’s players to have achieved this double, Hardik is the latest player to make his T20I debut, having first played for India in 2016.

Pandya has been in good form with the ball in limited overs cricket this year. He has taken eight wickets in T20Is and six in ODIs, with two four-wicket hauls.

Pandya bowled a 4-0-19-1 spell to stop West Indies at St Kitts on Tuesday. Importantly, he achieved success for India after a half-century from the West Indies openers.

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran lamented that his bowlers could not achieve quick success.

“I thought we had to take early wickets and we didn’t get early wickets. I thought we should have pulled it back early in the power-play, but unfortunately, we didn’t get that wicket,” Pooran said.

“(At the half stage of the game) we thought we had enough. India bowled well… They used the pitch really well. The wicket was on the slow side and we thought it would be difficult to score. Then, if Had we got early wickets, it would have been a different game.”

Brief Scores: West Indies 164/5 in 20 overs (Kyle Meyers 73, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2/35) lost to India 165/3 in 19 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 76, Rishabh Pant 33 not out) by seven wickets.
