Wrestler Bajrang got visa to go to America for training

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said in a statement on Saturday that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports was helped by the cooperative approach of the Ministry of External Affairs and the British High Commission, who helped Bajrang get a UK visa.

Bajrang and wrestler Deepak Punia will leave for America on July 10. They will train at the University of Michigan till July 30, after which both will leave for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham.

The Lakshya Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) of the Union Sports Ministry has facilitated exposure trips.

“The training stint in the US will be helpful in preparing for the Commonwealth Games and upcoming major events such as the Wrestling World Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Belgrade in September,” SAI said.

Bajrang is also a Commonwealth Games gold and silver medalist. He also won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

The Ministry of Sports has previously been helped by the cooperative approach of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British High Commission in seeking priority visas for international performance visits taken by athletes and support staff in other sports.
