Ben Simmons reveals whether he will make 3 attempts for the Nets this season

Ben Simmons talks about the controversial part of his game – his shooting – and reveals his approach to shots beyond the arc for the Nets in 2022-23.

Ben Simmons’ reluctance or inability to shoot has been the story underpinning his career so far and drawing attention away from his elite skills on the defensive end and as a facilitator.

His reluctance to attempt 3-pointers and his lack of confidence on the free-throw line caused spacing issues for the Philadelphia 76ers and an easy path for the Atlanta Hawks to exploit in the playoffs in 2021.

Simmons has attempted 34 3-pointers for a career and has made just five. Although much has been done about adding a layer of offense to his game—including his former head coach Brett Brown, who publicly challenges him to attempt one 3-pointer per game—he Haven’t made it a regular occurrence yet.

So, going with the Brooklyn Nets this season, is he going to try 3-pointers?

JJ Redick: Are you going to shoot three for the Nets this season?

Ben Simmons: Yes, I should! I just have to go out there, put something up.

JJ: You just gotta score one goal, I’m going to shoot five in a game unless they tell me to stop shooting.

BS: Twenty three game! Kevin’s wide open… Nope!

Well, pretty straight there.

Simmons is yet to play for the Nets.

After being traded to Brooklyn midseason, Simmons spent years getting into the shape of the game as he didn’t play for the Sixers due to hangups over his mental health and desire to be away from the team. In the process of getting back in the shape of the game, Simmons had some back issues that kept him out for the entire season.

The season starts in a couple of weeks, so we’ll see how serious Simmons is about his approach to 3-pointers.
